I love drawing and painting the essence of space, light and life. I make drawings and paintings by assembling and dis-assembling fragments of different spaces and whatever is contained within those spaces. I mark, photograph and experience in order to assemble what I perceive into a drawing or a painting. I work in charcoal, oil, collage and mixed media. Most of the drawings are at some point torn, erased, sanded down and reworked until they reach the essence of what they need to be. Most of the paintings undergo many transformations, sometimes over a period of years until they reach a point in which they can be called ‘finished’. I use the word ‘finished’ for want of a better way to describe something which has reached the limits of what it can be at a particular point in the exploration of the problematic of the work. It’s a bit like a chapter in a book. There is a point in which adding any more no longer fits, when one chapter has ended and the next needs to begin.

I like to use myself as a drawer/painter, as if I were a video camera, altering the speed and focus of the subject of the drawings and of the marks I make within it. This ‘video camera approach’ means I often superimpose scenes/ dimensions and characters or objects one on top of the other. Many of my cityscapes are assembled with this approach.
As an artist performer I like my drawings/ paintings to be ‘Everything’, so I move a lot when I work, as if I were dancing and this reflects in the marks on the paper or canvas. I like to paint and draw everything that exists or that can be imagined to exist and reduce it to its essence so the work has a kind of ‘Consciousness’ to it, which is what I perceive underneath all things and beings. I aim for my work to be unlimited and uncensored. The images are windows into other worlds and feed positive energy to the spaces they occupy.
